About Me

My photo
On May 4, 2009, Josh and I discovered that our soon to be little girl, due on August 25th, would be born with a CHD known as HLHS (hypo-plastic left heart syndrome). Upon hearing "something is wrong with your baby's heart" our lives changed completely. Our little Ruth Elizabeth was brought into this world on August 18, 2009. She was delivered via c-section and rushed immediately from Barnes to Childrens' Hospital for a cardiac cath intervention. Her arial septum was reopened and a week later, Ruthie underwent her first open heart surgery, the Norwood. Unfortunately, Ruthie was not able to survive on her Norwood heart and the Glenn procedure would not work for her. Ruthie was placed on the heart transplant list Feb.3, 2010. After waiting in SLCH, Ruthie received a new heart on July 5, 2010. We are so humbly blessed to receive this gift of life. We now are on the road to recovery. We have had our ups and downs. We have become SLCH regulars due to countless hospital stays and ER visits. We are learning how to manage life outside of SLCH and with another little girl. Now that we have two children, we are learning the about being a heart FAMILY.

A lot more living and a lil less of SLCH

We have been SLCH free for 2 weeks!
KNOCK ON WOOD!
In the meantime, we have been very busy bees.
We made our FIRST REAL ROAD TRIP, out of town, before Thanksgiving.
Ruthie wanted to go check out her Aunt Coley and Uncle Tom's house.
Oh yeah, Cousin TJ and Cheerio (the doggie) too!

Ruthie had a wonderful time watching football with the boys!
It was only a weekend trip, but it was awesome.
It was really nice to get out of town with the family!

Ruthie also had her first real photo shoot with her cousins on Black Friday!
(Mommy's crabbiest day of the year!LOL! Any Black Friday shoppers out there?)

She did really well despite the semi-snotty nose and all the commotion.
She slept GREAT that night!
(And so did Mommy!)

We have a clinic visit scheduled for tomorrow at SLCH. I am anxious. It has been a month since our last visit and two months since our last biopsy. I always get a little worried the day before Clinic. I guess that's just the heart momma in me. Or just the momma.

Well, off we are to make some cookies. We have many people to thank during the holiday season!

Until next time...

  1. Laura I would love to speak with u sometime. Im expecting my little boy Parker on Dec 22 via csection at Barnes and then he will be going straight to the cath lab at SLCH for his intact atrial septum. It looks like this is the same thing that your little Ruthie had done. Im getting very scared and would love to talk with someone that has used the same hospital and surgeons that we will be using. I have you on my friends on facebook Heather Everett. I would love to chat with you through email!
