About Me

My photo
On May 4, 2009, Josh and I discovered that our soon to be little girl, due on August 25th, would be born with a CHD known as HLHS (hypo-plastic left heart syndrome). Upon hearing "something is wrong with your baby's heart" our lives changed completely. Our little Ruth Elizabeth was brought into this world on August 18, 2009. She was delivered via c-section and rushed immediately from Barnes to Childrens' Hospital for a cardiac cath intervention. Her arial septum was reopened and a week later, Ruthie underwent her first open heart surgery, the Norwood. Unfortunately, Ruthie was not able to survive on her Norwood heart and the Glenn procedure would not work for her. Ruthie was placed on the heart transplant list Feb.3, 2010. After waiting in SLCH, Ruthie received a new heart on July 5, 2010. We are so humbly blessed to receive this gift of life. We now are on the road to recovery. We have had our ups and downs. We have become SLCH regulars due to countless hospital stays and ER visits. We are learning how to manage life outside of SLCH and with another little girl. Now that we have two children, we are learning the about being a heart FAMILY.

We have moved

Ruthie is doing well enough to be out of the main part of the CICU and into it's annex. We are in 7 West, techinically, but we still are part of the CICU. She will still have one on one nurses and the same doctors. The main difference is that we are not a room that needs a vent and we are not around the main desk. Unfortunately the unit is getting crowded and they need more space for the "sicker" kids that need life support, ecmo, etc. This is really exciting because that means Ruthie is stable and they feel comfortable moving her. However, it is sad because another family needs that room and that care. It is a huge mix of emotions.

Right now I am so grateful that Ruthie is doing well. Prayers are definitely answered! We have been praying that Ruth would get stronger and be able to endure her waiting time period. Thus far, she has proven to be a trooper and fighter! Thank God for giving her strength and patience.

Thank you all for your continued support. Without the prayers, advice, and open hearts we would not be able to face this situation head on. Please continue to pray for Ruthie and all of her heart buddies. These little ones don't even know what the world has in store, but yet they venture on. They are determined to make their mark on this world. Pray for the families of these brave and amazing children. Pray for Cameron as they prepare for his post Glenn chest closure tomorrow. Pray for Jacob who is off the vent, infection free and ready for his norwood tomorrow. Pray for Ben who is recovering and hoping for a closed chest in a few days. Pray for Lorenzo as he keeps getting bigger. Pray for Derrick as he marches on post Glenn and as cute as ever. Pray for Maggie who is post fontan and becoming more and beautiful and precious. Pray her mommy Faith too as she prepares for little Evie to meet her world.

I forgot the memory card for the camera at home today so pictured of her new room and set up will have to wait until tomorrow!

God bless and protect you!

Laura
